On Friday, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) voted to restore the right to an abortion nationwide, ensuring all Americans can make their own decisions about their bodies, their lives, and their futures.
The Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022 establishes a statutory right to abortion, securing health care providers’ right to provide abortion care and patients’ right to receive that care, free from state bans and restrictions.
Rep. Axne previously voted for The Women’s Health Protection Act in September of 2021.
The House also advanced the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act – addressing extremist Republicans’ attempts to restrict Americans’ freedom of movement. This legislation will prohibit any attempt under state law to:
- impede an individual from crossing state lines to obtain a legal abortion
- interfere with a health care provider’s ability to offer legal reproductive care
- restrict individuals from helping others to seek a legal abortion
- obstruct the transportation of FDA-approved abortion medication.
This legislation now goes to the Senate for its consideration.

Axne said. “I firmly believe women should be in charge of their own bodies and I am thankful I was able to cast my vote to help ensure the future safety and health of women. I will continue to fight until every woman in Iowa and across this country has the power to make their own medical decisions.”
