Republican State Rep. Terry Baxter issued a statement on his Facebook page Wednesday afternoon regarding additional mitigation measures put in place through Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ use of her emergency powers.

“My position: As a legislator, I recognize there may be extenuating circumstances where emergency powers may be needed by the executive branch, but COVID-19 no longer qualifies. It is time for free and informed people to decide their own destiny. I believe it is time to suspend the emergency powers of the Governor of Iowa related to COVID-19.”

Rep. Baxter joins a growing list of statesmen who are making the public calls:

State Senator-elect Taylor says Governor’s emergency powers need to be revised

REP. WHEELER: Cannot support many of new mitigation efforts

REP. HOLT: Cannot support portions of Reynolds’ safety measures
