Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) participated in a call with Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01) and Representatives Virginia Foxx (NC-01) and Brad Wenstrup (OH-02), as well as parents from across the country on safely reopening schools for the benefit of students nationwide.

“As families across the country continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from parents about their experiences and to discuss my legislation, the Reopen Schools Act, which would help kids and teachers return to the classroom safely.

“This isn’t about politics, it is about working together to do the right thing for students. Iowa has followed the science to get kids back in the classroom, and I’m grateful that my boys, Max and Jax, have been able to go to school to learn and see their friends. It was devastating to hear from parents today who feel helpless in this situation and I hope that states across the country follow Iowa’s lead to put students first.

“Thank you to Whip Scalise for facilitating this important conversation, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get our students back in class.”
