It would appear that several school districts in our state today are experiencing student protests related to continued mask mandates by individual school districts. These students believe their basic rights are being violated, and that the time has come to move forward. They want their faces free once more.
Given the low level of spread in many communities, the fact that the vaccine is now available to everyone who wants it, the reality that in many cases masks are not being worn elsewhere in the community, the low impact the Coronavirus has had on younger people, and the known developmental issues for children with their faces covered, it is understandable why some parents and students have had enough.
If the masks and the vaccines work, then no one should have any problem with someone else’s choice not to wear a mask.
This should be a clear indication that many in our society have had enough with mandates that appear less and less to be rooted in science.
