Representative Mary Mascher (D-Iowa City) is a retired teacher. She said Planned Parenthood has provided quality education and quality health care for Iowa children and done an outstanding job at reducing teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
“They help our children understand their own anatomy and they help them learn to respect their own bodies, their own rights and the rights of others,” Mascher said. “Planned Parenthood is the gold standard when it comes to high-quality education programming, not just in Iowa, but in the entire country.”
Mascher said even church leaders utilize Planned Parenthood for education.
“They utilize Planned Parenthood because they know they provide the quality they want for their children,” she said.
She also said the message sent to transgender Iowans is “hateful, hurtful and mean.”
“This will be challenged in court and you know it,” Mascher said. “But even more importantly, you will lose. But you already (know) that. I want transgender Iowans to know today Democrats care. I care. And I will stand with you and defend your right to life-saving surgery.”
