Congressman Chip Roy (TX-21) raises concerns over reports of a previously scheduled “all-ages drag show” at the Comal County Fairgrounds and urges the Comal County Fair Association to ensure future events reflect the values of Texas families.

“Recent reports have surfaced regarding a planned ‘all-ages drag show’ hosted by Riverside Pride at the Comal County Fairgrounds,”  Rep. Roy wrote. “While the organizers reportedly canceled the event under the pretense of security costs, the situation highlights a growing cultural issue that demands moral clarity—children should never be exposed to sexually explicit performances, regardless of how they are labeled.”

“In 2023, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 12, which prohibits sexually oriented performances—including certain drag shows—in the presence of minors or on public property,”  Roy noted.  “Although that law is currently subject to litigation, its intent and moral foundation are unmistakable: Texans believe in protecting the innocence of children. The spirit of that law should guide how our communities approach these decisions.”

Roy emphasized the responsibility of local leaders to uphold community standards and stand against cultural pressures that seek to normalize adult themes in front of minors.

“The Comal County Fairgrounds has long represented the best of Texas—wholesome, family-centered gatherings like the county fair, 4-H and FFA shows, and community dances,”  Roy continued.  “I urge continued caution against future bookings of this nature on the principle of protecting children. Let’s preserve that proud legacy and ensure every event reflects the values that make Texas strong.”
