Name: Rep. Skyler Wheeler, Republican (incumbent)
Office/District: State Representative District 4
Hometown: Orange City
Profession: Direct care worker
Why running for office: “There’s a lot of work still to be done and I feel as if I’ve become somewhat of a leader in the conservative movement in the state of Iowa and I want to continue to push conservative values in Des Moines.
“Life and guns — the life issue is the most important. We’ve got a lot of work to do to rewrite the (Iowa) Supreme Court’s unjust ruling on trying to find a right to an abortion in the constitution. As far as guns go, we have to protect the Second Amendment or we have no other rights. If you haven’t noticed during this whole Coronavirus deal, what we were able to pass in 2017 ensured a governor doesn’t have emergency powers to go after the Second Amendment. That’s directly because of Republicans winning control of the legislature, including myself. We pushed to make sure bad governors in a time of crisis could not strip you of your Second Amendment rights.
“Also cutting taxes. Iowans work hard for their money and the state owes it to those same Iowans to be wise stewards of tax dollars.”
