Every member of the Iowa House and Senate was sent three questions regarding the Pella Aquatic Center incident and policy. Here are Rep. John Wills’s answers:
“It is a shame that a town/city such as Pella has to be embroiled in this debate. Certainly, it is the making of a few who want to make waves and challenge the system. Shame on them for putting young people in the path of their exhibition.

I do support removing sexual orientation and gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Code. Our constitution guarantees the same protections for each person no matter skin color or gender or whatever they feel they are and I believe that to create ‘protected’ classes is the opposite of what the Constitution guarantees.  The Constitution guarantees equal protection for all and to go beyond that does not provide equal protection for all.”
