On Sept. 2, the Republican Party of Iowa posted a simple message to Facebook:

As you can see, the message performed well. With more than 1,200 reactions, it is something Iowans appreciated the Republican Party accomplishing.

And it begs the question, if the Republican Party of Iowa is this proud of saving girls sports, what will it do with the lone Republican in the Iowa legislature who voted against saving girls sports?

I’m talking about Republican State Rep. Michael Bergan, the million-dollar man.

In his three elections for Iowa House from 2016-2020, the House Majority Fund through the Republican Party of Iowa has given Bergan $1,048,581.02.

Thus the monicker, the million-dollar man.

Conservative Iowans, who contribute to House Republican candidates, don’t realize it, but that money is then pooled together and distributed as House leadership sees fit.

And Bergan has been given more than $1 million by conservative Iowans without them ever knowing it.

What sort of return on investment have they received?

*Bergan voted against protecting women’s sports
*Bergan voted against a bill banning sanctuary cities and counties when it comes to illegal immigration
*Bergan voted against Stand Your Ground legislation
*Bergan voted against the Heartbeat Bill in committee

It is really good to see the Republican Party of Iowa rally around protecting women’s sports. It doesn’t have a great track record of tackling “controversial” issues against the LGBTQ movement, perhaps because people who work within the party are sometimes members of the LGBTQ movement.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how much money the House Majority Fund throws to Bergan through the Republican Party of Iowa here in 2022.
