Yesterday, the Republican State Leadership Committee announced an offensive strategy to flip Democrat-held legislative seats that Donald Trump won in 2016. The RSLC has identified 14 targets, including Iowa House districts 26, 39, 52, 58, 64, and 81. These targets will help Iowa House and Senate Republicans hold and expand their majorities to protect Iowans from liberal gerrymandering after the next Census and expand on the Republican Party’s record of success.

“The Iowa Caucuses are over, but with so much at stake in the state legislature, the nation’s eyes haven’t left the Hawkeye State,” said Edith Jorge-Tuñón, RSLC Political Director. “The Republican state House and Senate have worked closely with Governor Kim Reynolds to set smart, conservative policies for the state that have allowed Iowans to prosper. The RSLC is all-in to help strengthen the Republican majorities and stop Democrats from taking Iowa in the wrong direction.”

“An election cycle with this much at stake comes just once each decade — and national Democrats have made clear that they aren’t going to allow the opportunity to pass them by,” said former Iowa House Speaker Linda Upmeyer. “That means Republicans must fight harder than we’ve ever fought before. It’s critical this fall that we hold our conservative majorities and protect Iowans from the left’s radical agenda. Great Iowans like Speaker Grassley and Senator Whitver are ready to lead us to victory — and I’m all-in to help them and Republicans up-and-down the ballot.”

Republicans have a strong offensive opportunity in the Iowa state House with 13 Democrat-held seats in Trump districts, and one in the state Senate. U.S. Senator Joni Ernst and Governor Kim Reynolds have previously won a majority of these target districts. With President Trump and Senator Ernst on top of the ticket, Republicans are on track to be successful across the state once again this fall.
