Yesterday, Governor Kim Reynolds signed SF 538, banning the performance of sex-change procedures on children, including the prescription of puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones as well as surgeries for the purposes of “gender transition.” Iowa is the eleventh state to take action to restrict these procedures in some capacity.

In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement cheering the news:

“In recent months, the transgender movement has been increasingly exposed for what it is: a predatory industry exploiting our society’s most vulnerable kids. As more and more horror stories have emerged from children who were encouraged to undergo these dangerous, irreversible procedures, only to regret them later on, it’s become clear that strong action must be taken to shut down this medical experimentation. This egregious malpractice can no longer be allowed to continue.

“Thankfully, lawmakers in many states are moving to do just that, including Gov. Reynolds and legislators in Iowa. We applaud them for standing up to protect Iowa kids, and we urge the remaining states without such protections to do the same.”
