Republican State Rep. Dave Maxwell lost a primary election against conservative House Rep. Dean Fisher in June. It was one of the races Gov. Kim Reynolds endorsed due to Fisher’s support of educational freedom in Iowa and Maxwell’s refusal to support educational freedom.

Now Maxwell has endorsed Democrat Deidre DeJear for governor.

“Iowa used to be a state that funded education first,” Maxwell said. “Not doing so has been a disservice to all Iowans. I appreciate Deidre’s proposal because it prioritizes funding public schools and allows for reasonable solutions to educate our children.”

DeJear said she was “proud” to have her education plan supported by Maxwell.

Maxwell is also supportive of abortion. He voted against giving Iowans an opportunity to vote on the Protect Life Amendment. He voted against the Heartbeat bill. He voted against the 20-week abortion ban.

Maxwell was the beneficiary of thousands of dollars from Republican contributors who never knew they were funding his campaign through the House Majority Fund despite his support for abortion.

In addition to DeJear, Maxwell has endorsed Democrat Sen. Kevin Kinney against Republican State Sen. Dawn Driscoll.
