Following the recent Supreme Court case regarding Title VII, American Principles Project (APP) is encouraging federal agencies to reject calls from left-wing activists and outside groups to reverse course on the definition of “sex.”
In the last few weeks, the Trump administration has strongly affirmed the reality of biological sex in federal law. In May, the Department of Education declared that Connecticut’s policy allowing biological males to compete in girls’ athletics was in violation of Title IX.
This month, the Department of Health and Human Services finalized a rule maintaining that civil rights law prohibiting sex discrimination in healthcare applies to discrimination based on biological sex. And last week, the Department of Justice filed a statement of interest in a lawsuit involving Idaho’s Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, defending the law’s constitutionality.
In a statement, Terry Schilling, executive director of APP, praised these efforts and encouraged the agencies to stand firm in the face of increasing pressure from progressives:
“From the day he first took office, President Trump and his administration have done an incredible job standing up against a radical ideology that would cause serious harm to women and children and turn our entire society upside down. We were specifically heartened by the Department of Education’s recent defense of women’s athletic and educational opportunities when they announced last month that Connecticut had violated Title IX by allowing men to compete against women.
“Now, in the face of tremendous pressure from left-wing elites and activists, it is critically important that the administration remain firm in its conviction that “sex” as written in the law means “sex” — male and female.
“It is not an exaggeration to say that the future of the country and of many of the rights and opportunities we take for granted as Americans is now at stake. We urge the administration to stand strong and commit to implementing federal law as it was originally intended.”
