The 2025 legislative session officially wrapped up Thursday morning at 6 a.m. after an all-day, all-night marathon on the Senate floor. It was long, intense, and frankly, one of the most revealing days at the Capitol thus far.
But I’m incredibly grateful to report: we got it done.
Thanks to a group of principled senators, our small team held together and with help from a few others during the final vote, including some unexpected support from across the aisle, we passed meaningful property rights protections. These provisions will make a real difference for Iowa landowners facing the threat of eminent domain from the carbon pipeline project.
We anticipate that Governor Reynolds signs the bill. That part is still uncertain, so if you’re a person of prayer—please join me in lifting that up.
I’ll be honest: not everyone is happy about how this played out. Some in our own caucus are upset that the “group of 12” Republicans voted with Democrats to move this forward.
The important part is this: it wasn’t about Republicans or Democrats—it was about doing the right thing for the people of Iowa.
We need unity, not division. I believe in healing, honest dialogue, and standing firm in principle and the Constitution. We’ve got work to do next year, and I’m hopeful we can come together to get it done.

- Improved the prior authorization process to prioritize patients and their care (HF 303)
- Invested in Iowa’s health care workforce to meet growing demand (HF 972)
- Reformed pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) practices to protect patients and preserve rural pharmacies (SF 383)
Election Security: Safeguarding the Vote
- Protected the voices of full-time residents in student-heavy counties (SF 75)
- Banned ranked choice voting and strengthened voter registration and citizenship verification (HF 954)
- Improved Iowa’s recount procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency (HF 928)
Education: Real Solutions for Iowa Students
- Invested $240 million more into K-12 education funding (SF 167)
- Kept classrooms focused on learning, not cellphones (HF 782)
- Advanced math proficiency for students across the state (HF 784)
- Expanded access to preschool and child care solutions for working parents (SF 445)
