Senator Claire Celsi’s statement on the failure of Education Savings Accounts in the 2022 Session:
Governor Reynolds and Legislative Republicans have relentlessly tried to pass private school vouchers in Iowa for the past few sessions and have once again failed.
“This failure of vouchers is due to the fact that average Iowans know the value of our public schools and want to fight to protect and improve our schools, instead of underfunding education. They want their taxpayer dollars to go to public schools.
Iowans know that public schools are essential to ensuring that every child gets a chance to learn in a safe, nurturing and affirming environment. Free public education for every child is the cornerstone of our democracy, and Iowans went to great lengths to contact their legislators to tell them to vote no on Governor Reynolds’ voucher plan.
Governor Reynolds failed in her attempt to coerce members of her own party to vote for this bad public policy. Shame on her for undermining our public schools.”
Senator Claire Celsi is a founding member of Iowans for Public Education, a grassroots group that provides Iowans updates on what is going on in the Legislature and suggests opportunities for them to contact their Legislators. She proudly sent her children to public schools in her district and served as PTO President at her children’s elementary school. She serves on the Education Committee of the Iowa Senate.
