Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) issued the following statement regarding today’s tax filing day and the diligent work by IRS to manage this tax filing season amid the global pandemic.

“Tax Day isn’t anyone’s favorite day of the year, but I’d like to compliment the work of Commissioner Rettig and everyone at the IRS for adapting to the most difficult and complicated tax filing season in memory. The Trump Administration’s flexibility and help for individuals and businesses by delaying the filing deadline has been commendable, especially in these circumstances.

“It’s also a reminder of the positive effects of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed by Republicans last Congress. In my home state of Iowa, Iowans of every income group have seen a tax cut and lower utility bills because of our legislation. The benefits of tax reform and the continued work Republicans are doing through the tax code will help get America back to the strong economic success we enjoyed before this pandemic. “Unfortunately, there are calls from some on the other side of the aisle to reverse course by repealing these relief measures and hiking taxes. Such changes would slow rehiring, adversely affect small businesses, take money out of the American peoples’ pockets and shrink the size of the economy. At a time when families and small businesses across the country are facing the severe strains of this public health crisis, these calls are especially concerning and should be rejected.”
