On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) forced the U.S. Senate to go on the record on fiscal responsibility with a vote on his “Six Penny Plan” federal budget that would have balanced within five years. Ultimately, 29 senators stood with Dr. Paul to get Congress’ spending under control, while 67 senators voted to continue trillion-dollar spending deficits.

“Washington’s addiction to spending is hurting our economy and depleting our currency. Inflation is stealing every American’s purchasing power and financial security. And yet, no democrat or republican has produced a federal budget; my Six Penny Plan is the only one,” said Dr. Paul. “My plan provides a commonsense solution for fiscal sanity. It puts our nation on track to balance the federal budget in the next five years, and it solves this inflationary and spending crisis that Congress created.”

As Dr. Paul mentioned in his remarks before the vote, “All this plan does is return to 2019 spending levels. If the federal government spent at 2019 levels this year, we would have a $388 billion surplus. This “6 Penny Balanced-Budget” plan is reasonable and obtainable.”

***Both Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst voted yes.***
