On Wednesday, following a briefing from the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I just got off a call with the FBI and U.S. Secret Service regarding the gross security failures that allowed for an assassination attempt on President Trump and the murder and severe injury of other innocent Americans. First, I am very appreciative of the Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line following the shooting to protect President Trump. They are heroes.

“While I appreciate the efforts of the FBI and USSS to brief members of Congress on their work and conduct a thorough investigation, the Biden administration must also share this information with the public. There is a lot of information out there, some real and some not, and the Biden administration has got to start being open with Americans about what happened, who is being held accountable, and how we make sure it never happens again.

“As I said on Saturday, the security of our Republic is being questioned. The Biden administration can’t wait until the investigation is complete to release details. It needs to start today. It is imperative that FBI Director Wray, USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas hold a daily public press conference to share updates with the American people and answer questions about what happened, who is being held accountable, and how we make sure it never happens again.”
