Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer said Sunday that “dumb” people are buying fake COVID-19 vaccine cards and wants the federal government to “crackdown” on the counterfeit COVID cards.
“There are now people manufacturing and selling fake COVID cards, even though it’s a crime,” he said. “The Feds have to step up their efforts to ameliorate this problem before it gets worse. The Department of Justice must ensure that fraud cases are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
Schumer said he couldn’t understand why people would rather pay for a counterfeit card than simply receive the vaccine for free.
“Some people, rather than get the vaccine, which is free, are paying money for a fake card and risking prosecution because it’s against the law,” Schumer said. “Who could be that dumb?”
Officers with Customs and Border Patrol intercepted thousands of fake COVID-19 vaccination cards from China in the last year, according to the agency.
