Late last month The Iowa Standard highlighted efforts by Iowa Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver to raise money and collect email addresses while sponsoring an anti-vaccine mandate Facebook post:

Members of the Iowa House have said Whitver is the biggest Republican hang-up to stopping vaccine mandates in the Iowa Senate. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen.

We were curious how much money Whitver has spent on this Facebook advertising campaign while the Iowa legislature has done very little to stop vaccine mandates from employers and others.

It turns out Whitver’s Facebook page has spent around $1,000-$1,500 plus another $100-$199 on another ad schedule for the post.

While the outlook remains dim for something to happen in the legislature protecting Iowans from vaccine mandates, there is still time to make something happen if — IF — the legislature wants to.

We’ll find out in the next week or two prior to adjournment.
