Senate Democrats are working on redefining marriage in federal code by passing the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act,” which would codify homosexual marriage, repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, force every state to recognize whatever one other state calls “marriage” and also threatens religious liberty.

FRC Action is calling for continued contacts with United States Senators.

“Senators have been under intense pressure to pass this harmful bill, but your calls and emails are making an impact,” FRC Action said.

The group is asking Americans to do the following:

  • Email your senators! They are getting hammered by folks on the other side, and they need to hear from you!
  • Use this form to call your senator(s) office(s). It will connect you directly to the vulnerable Republican senator(s) in Iowa and walk you through a 3-minute call. (If you can’t get through and their voicemail is full, call again Monday morning.)
  • Forward this story to your family and friends.
  • Pray. Nothing else you do will matter as much. Join us in praying for wisdom and courage for Senator Ernst and Senator Grassley.

While it often seems our voices go unheard, FRC Action said the messages are getting through as evidenced by Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota. Cramer was originally considered “unsure” or leaning yes on the bill, but recently came out in firm opposition.

This week he told Tony Perkins, “What I’m hearing from North Dakotans, which matters the most to me, is overwhelmingly, they oppose this legislation…In many respects, passing a bill like this really sends a pretty strong message that religious beliefs don’t matter.”

FRC Action warns the bill will exacerbate already-existing attacks on religious liberty and make faith-based adoption and foster care agencies an even bigger target for frivolous litigation.

“Your voice matters, so please continue to urge your senators to protect religious freedom and vote “NO” on the redefinition of marriage!”
