The arrest of Des Moines Public School Superintendent by ICE agents has dominated the news cycle. More is being revealed but below are some bullet points describing some of what is being reported about the situation.

  • He is an illegal alien who had not obeyed a deportation order;
  • He has a previous gun charge;
  • The legitimacy of his degree is being questioned;
  • He fled from federal ICE agents in a car owned by the school district;
  • When he fled, he had a loaded gun in the car along with a knife and $3000 in cash;
  • The Board was aware of Robert’s gun charge;
  • Shortly after Roberts was hired, the Des Moines Public School Board adopted rules that did not prohibit hiring employees with criminal records following a recommendation by Roberts. Roberts explained the change to be a tool in reaching a longtime goal of diversifying its staff;
  • The Board Chair who was responsible for hiring Roberts, was a part of the Obama organization and is now running as a Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate;
  • Democrat officials, former officials, and activists are protesting the arrest of Ian Roberts calling for “love” and “justice.”

This entire story has left-wing, socialist, progressive Democrat fingerprints all over it and highlights a much bigger problem. We cannot generalize and we must recognize we have good educators in many places, but anyone who is paying attention knows that our institutions of higher learning have been indoctrinating and sending leftist, anti-American, anti-God agents of change into the ranks of our educators for the last century. Below is a brief historical overview of why we have this problem.

1905
A strategy of gradualism was employed by those who founded the Intercollegiate Socialist Society (ISS) on September 12, 1905. Their goal was to overthrow the Christian worldview that pervaded America and replace it with a socialist/humanist worldview. They started socialist clubs in our universities to promote interest in socialism even though it was abhorrent to the general way of thinking at that time. They later changed their name to the League for Industrial Democracy (LID) to be more appealing after a rise in anti-socialist sentiment after WWI. There were other names and offshoots of this movement, such as Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), The Weather Underground, and The New Party that have risen over the years but are essentially the same movement.

1930
Below is a quote from 1930 that illustrates the continued work of socialists as it relates to using public schools to promote the anti-God religion of humanism.

“Education is thus a most powerful ally of humanism, and every American school is a school of humanism. What can a theistic Sunday school’s meeting for an hour once a week and teaching only a fraction of the children do to stem the tide of the five-day program of humanistic teaching?”                                                                           -Charles F. Potter, “Humanism: A New Religion,” 1930

1950
In the 1950’s, communist goals were revealed (and read into the Congressional Record) that, when read today, reveal the continued progress. Here are a few of these goals.

  • Get control of the schools and teachers’ associations;
  • Soften the curriculum and use schools as a transmission belt for socialism;
  • Infiltrate the media and gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures;
  • Use environmental movement to destroy business;
  • Discredit the Bible;
  • Eliminate Prayer in schools;
  • Infiltrate churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion;
  • Discredit the family as an institution;
  • Get children away from parents into government programs;
  • Promote cohabitation instead of marriage;
  • Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography;
  • Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling it “censorship” and violation of free speech and free press.

1983
Below is a quote from John J. Dunphy, published in 1983 which speaks for itself.
“I am convinced that the battle for humankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity … The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new—the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism, resplendent in its promise of a world in which the never-realized Christian ideal of “love thy neighbor” will finally be achieved.”
-John J. Dunphy, published in the January-February 1983 issue of The Humanist magazine (Vol. 43, No. 1),

2009
A poster on the University of Iowa Campus, advertising a September 16, 2009, meeting read:
“Socialism. What it is and why we need it!” Come to this meeting to discuss the idea of socialism — and socialist strategies to change the world.”

2016
In 2016 there was a promotional video released by the World Economic Forum which made predictions for the year 2030 which included the statement: “You will own nothing. And you will be happy.” This is total socialism and it is the vision of the globalists who want to destroy property rights and control everything.

Full Circle
I find it very telling that an anti ICE protest against the arrest of Ian Roberts in Des Moines, was led by Democrat (socialist?) leaders saying, “We will love one another….” as if love means we are supposed to ignore criminal activity. It sounds similar to the kind of humanistic love referred to by humanist John J. Dunphy in the quote above.

Realizing we have a criminal school superintendent is a big deal and those responsible must be held to account. However, it is a symptom of a bigger systemic problem. We must treat the symptoms, but we must also seek a cure. This is the kind of leadership I will provide as the next Governor of Iowa.

  1. The Board Chair who was responsible for hiring Roberts, was a part of the Obama organization and is now running as a Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate;
    She was a member of the board but not the board chair when he was hired.
