Republican incumbent Representatives Jeff Shipley and Joe Mitchell will square off tonight (Thursday, May 19) in a primary debate for Iowa House District 87 at the Fairfield High School Auditorium. The debate is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

The debate is being sponsored by the local Republican Party.

Shipley has been the most vocal critic of the radical gender ideology being pushed in Iowa schools while Mitchell has said anti-LGBTQ bills will not see the light of the day in the legislature. He has resisted efforts to strip gender identity out of the civil rights code, voted against protecting property owners from eminent domain when it comes to the carbon pipelines and said he has generally always been against Education Savings Accounts and vouchers.
