I really think it was a mistake for Republicans to try to keep Abby Finkenauer off the ballot. Makes them look scared of her. Provides her with momentum. Gives her something to fundraise on. And, embarrassingly, it was a mostly Republican Supreme Court that ruled in her favor.
I understand there may have been grounds for a legal argument to have her removed, but I fail to see how this fires up Republicans more than Democrats. I fail to see how this stunt could fire up Republicans at all. It almost seems desperate. Sen. Chuck Grassley had staff in the panel hearing at the Capitol when this was debated and I wondered why. Are they that worried about Finkenauer as a challenger?
Again, it is hard to see what gain there was in this.
