Tara Rehmeier, the assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator at Simpson College, sent an email to the school’s softball players earlier this summer asking them to send a photo of their vaccination card if they’re fully vaccinated.

Players were also told they could win $200 in the fall semester if they’re vaccinated.

“Starting the first week of classes, Simpson will draw the names of five students each week for 10 weeks and every winner will receive $200! Students who submit by Aug. 1 will have the highest number of chances to win,” the email said.

Players were also told they’d be exempt from surveillance testing and from contact tracing should a teammate/roommate test positive.

“If you’re not yet vaccinated, I hope you’ll consider doing so before you return to campus,” Rehmeier wrote. “We are looking forward to a more ‘normal’ year of campus life, including SPORTS and FANS IN THE STANDS. To help make this a reality, we need as many members of the campus community as possible to be fully vaccinated to help keep us all healthy.”
