The Iowa Standard has learned that KCCI hosted the Third Congressional debate outside because Gary Leffler, one of three Republicans running for the nomination to take on Congresswoman Cindy Axne, isn’t vaccinated against COVID.

A source told The Iowa Standard Leffler was told he would need to provide proof of vaccination.

The station decided to do the debate outside.

This is one more instance of COVID discrimination taking place in Iowa as the Iowa legislature fails to address the Medical Freedom & Privacy issue. And in this case, it could have had a huge impact on the political process.

After publication, KCCI President and General Manager Brian Sather provided the following comment:

“KCCI has a long history of providing public debates between political candidates.  On Saturday, we staged a debate that successfully allowed the three Republican candidates in the Third District Congressional primary to speak directly to Iowa voters.  Using our technological resources, we were able to accommodate all three candidates using multiple locations while also adhering to health and safety protocols designed to protect all participants and our staff.”
