Students for Life Action has publicly thanked Rep. Jeff Shipley for his efforts to ban chemical abortion drugs in Iowa. The group called Shipley a “pro-life champion.”

Shipley sponsored House File 331 to ban chemical abortion drugs as the pills account for more than 50 percent of abortions. Women are given the pills to take at home and often suffer complications by themselves, according to the organization.

“When the Iowa House Public Safety Chairman failed to hold a hearing on the bill, Rep. Shipley didn’t give up,” the postcard states. “He stood against enormous pressure and fought to amend the state budget to protect Iowans from these pills, which are dangerous to women and deadly to babies.”

Shipley has a 100 percent pro-life voting record and returned the Students for Life Action Survey while pledging to continue working to end abortion while supporting mothers and children, according to Students for Life Action.

His primary election opponent, Rep. Joe Mitchell, voted no on the amendment banning chemical abortion drugs, according to Students for Life Action.

In addition to voting against the legislation banning chemical abortion drugs, Students for Life Action said Mitchell failed to return his candidate survey.

“Tell Rep. Mitchell: STOP opposing pro-life bills,” the postcard states.
