On Tuesday, The American Border Story (TABS) issued the following statement condemning Senate Democrats for blocking Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding and forcing a partial government shutdown in an attempt to impose restrictions on ICE enforcement operations:
“This shutdown— now on its fourth day —is the direct result of Senate Democrats choosing political theater over the safety of the American people. By blocking funding unless ICE is weakened, they are playing reckless games with agencies that protect our homeland every single day.
“DHS and ICE are essential pillars of our national security. Treating the Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA, Secret Service, and immigration enforcement as bargaining chips undermines law enforcement and puts American communities at risk.
“Americans expect leaders to enforce the law and secure the border — not sabotage the very agencies responsible for doing it. Lawmakers who continue obstructing funding must explain why they are willing to risk public safety to score political points.
“Congress should immediately pass funding and end this manufactured crisis before the consequences grow more serious.”
