Jeremy Taylor, candidate for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District, released a statement challenging JD Scholten to come clean with the voters of Iowa on where he stands on the 2nd Amendment:
“In last week’s debate, the Democrats’ mask slipped. Beto O’Rourke admitted that, ‘Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.’ Just last year, when he was a candidate for Senate in Texas, Beto promised voters that he didn’t want to take away our guns. It turns out he was lying, pandering to voters to earn their votes. Now the truth is out: Democrats can’t be trusted with our 2nd Amendment rights.
“When JD Scholten ran for Congress last year, he told voters that he wants to ban the AR-15, the most popular rifle in America today. There are more than 16 million modern sporting rifles owned by Americans, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation estimates that anywhere from 5 to 10 million of those are AR-15s.
“Does JD Scholten stand with Beto O’Rourke and support confiscating those legally-owned firearms? What does his ‘ban’ entail?
“JD Scholten needs to state clearly and unequivocally where he stands on so-called ‘mandatory buybacks’ – a focus group-tested euphemism for confiscation. He needs to explain to the voters why the voters of Iowa should trust him at his word. He needs to come clean about what he’s promising his out-of-state donors about gun control.
“For decades, Democrats have tried to reassure the voters that they don’t want to confiscate our guns. They hide behind slogans like ‘common-sense gun reform.’ They talk about their respect for hunters. Now we know: JD Scholten wants to take our guns. They want to take away the most popular rifle in America.
“JD Scholten owes the voters of Iowa some answers.”
