On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement released an interim report regarding Yohenry Josue Betancourt-Brito, an illegal alien who brutally attacked two New York City police officers near a migrant shelter in Times Square.
In May 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration released Venezuelan national Betancourt-Brito into the U.S. after he was apprehended near El Paso, Texas. Less than eight months later, he faced multiple charges, including assaulting two NYPD officers and committing larceny. Despite the seriousness of his offenses, he remained free to reoffend due to alleged inaction by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In May 2024, Betancourt-Brito was offered a plea deal by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, led by District Attorney Alvin Bragg, to serve a year in jail in exchange for pleading guilty to second-degree assault. Simultaneously, Bragg’s office was engaged in politicized prosecution against the Biden-Harris Administration’s main political opponent, President Donald J. Trump.
The disastrous immigration policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have had real-world consequences for American citizens. The effects of these policies will be felt for years to come, with criminal aliens harming families and compromising public safety across the country. New York City police officers were attacked because the Biden-Harris Administration allowed illegal aliens like Betancourt-Brito to enter the country.
