Republican State Rep. shared a post on Facebook showing he is being supported by the Iowa State Education Association — the teachers’ union. Thorup was one of the Republicans who publicly opposed Gov. Kim Reynolds’ Education Savings Accounts plan.

Thorup shared a letter he received from the liberal ISEA, which has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Democrat Party in Iowa in recent years.

“I am writing on behalf of the Iowa State Education Association Political Action Committee representing education professionals across the state,” wrote ISEA President Mike Beranek. “I am pleased to inform you the ISEA-PAC has taken action to recommend support of your campaign for the 2022 Election Cycle.”

ISEA vowed to communicate with its members in advance of the June primary about its support of Thorup, who is running against Barb Kniff McCulla. McCulla was endorsed by Gov. Reynolds.

Bernaek said the teachers’ union believes Thorup will “do his best for all of Iowa’s students regardless of the ZIP code in which they live and be a voice for education professionals as important decisions are made that impact our students and our public schools.”

Here was Beranek’s statement against school choice for Iowa families:

ISEA has also endorsed Democrat Deidre DeJear for Governor against Reynolds.

And here is what ISEA said regarding the bill to Protect Women’s Sports:
