The American Academy of Pediatrics published a study in May of 2020 that revealed almost 10 percent of high school students in one district identified as “gender-diverse.”
That alarming figure is much higher than past estimates. A 2017 government study of high school students showed just 1.8 percent of students identified as transgender.
