A pediatrician called Dr. Amy Shriver told an Iowa House subcommittee on Monday that the bill prohibiting instruction on gender identity to K-3 students is “anti-science” and “anti-child.”

Shriver, who identifies as a “child health expert, child development expert and child advocate,” encouraged the three-member panel to reject the common-sense legislation.

Shriver said children should feel safe at schools and no pediatrician in Iowa was consulted when the bill was written.

“There is no science behind this bill,” said the self-identified child development expert. “Science indicates that children who are free to express their gender and learn about their gender are safer. You develop your explicit biases as early as age three and can experience discrimination throughout elementary school.”

Shriver said she would “be happy” to provide information to support what she called “science-based bill writing.”

“This is anti-science and anti-child and I ask you to vote no,” she said.

  1. Science was created by God. Mankind twists science to suit their own ends and they disregard the truth of God. The foolishness of God is higher than the wisdom of men. Trust in God, not men.
