Perry School District Superintendent Clark Wicks told The Iowa Standard the district will not accept money raised at an upcoming drag show.
Earlier this week The Iowa Standard shared a flyer promoting a drag event that claimed it would be raising funds for Perry High School’s theater department. An employee of the district, Jenn Hillman, is listed on the flyer as a co-host of the drag show.
The district, the school board and Wicks did not approve anything with the drag show. Wicks also said the district did not provide permission to use the Perry Hish School name on the flyer.
“The Perry Schools will not accept any $$$ from this event,” Wicks said.
The drag show is open for all ages, though it encourages parental discretion. The event will be held at Century Farm Books & Brews on Saturday.
The website for the event says it will be family-friendly and encourages people to bring dollar bills to tip the performers.
“Get ready for a wild time filled with fabulous performances and delicious drinks and snacks,” it states.
The event no longer mentions Perry High School’s theater department, but states it will raise money for “local theater departments.”
