On Friday, Utah lawmakers overrode Governor Spencer Cox’s veto of HB11, legislation which prohibits biological males from competing in female athletics in the state’s K-12 schools. This vote makes Utah the twelfth state to pass a law explicitly protecting girls’ sports.

In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement cheering the news:

“The movement to defend girls’ sports continues to gain momentum, despite the cowardly actions of politicians like Spencer Cox.

“Earlier this week, Gov. Cox betrayed his state’s female athletes by vetoing a bill that would protect them from being forced to compete against boys. Cox claimed his decision was motivated by ‘kindness, mercy and compassion.’ But where was his compassion for girls placed at an unfair, and potentially dangerous, disadvantage? As always in this debate, the public sympathy of our supposed leaders only goes in one direction.

“Fortunately, Utah’s legislators were courageous enough to stand up to the governor, as well as his powerful left-wing supporters, and pass the legislation over his veto. APP commends them for their effort to uphold biological reality, and we strongly encourage the remaining states without protections for female athletes to enact them before it’s too late.

“We also have a message for Gov. Cox and other politicians like him: voters aren’t buying your routine. If you refuse to defend your constituents against the woke agenda being pushed on them by our radical elites, you will be forced to answer for it at the polls. Republicans who surrender these critical fights have no political future.”
