During National Police Week, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) welcomed Officer Lucas Liddle of the Cedar Rapids Police Department and his family to her Washington, D.C. office during their trip to the nation’s capital that is focused on honoring the fallen.

The group is in Washington this week as part of the Police Unity Tour to add the names of nine fallen officers to the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum. According to the Cedar Rapids PD, the department tragically lost six officers in 2021.

“Our nation’s police officers serve our communities every single day and make untold sacrifices to keep us safe; they deserve our full support,” said Senator Joni Ernst. “My meeting with Officer Liddle—who is in Washington this week to honor those who were tragically lost in the line of duty—serves as a stark reminder of the selfless work that the men and women in blue do to protect and serve. Thank you to every single officer who puts his or her life on the line for our communities.”
