Congresswoman Nancy Mace put herself at the front of the fight to require bathroom usage at the U.S. Capitol be based on sex rather than “gender identity.”
Mace made it an issue after Tim “Sarah” McBride was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. McBride is a “transgender” person who identifies as a woman.
Last week, on Twitter, Mace suggested that the “LGBs” divorce themselves from “the Ts.” Obviously meaning that lesbian, gay and bisexual individuals should distance themselves from transgender individuals.
Now, we’re not suggesting Mace did wrong when she demanded men should use the men’s restroom and women should use the women’s restroom and whether someone is a man or a woman should be dictated by their sex.
But something happened that doesn’t seem to make a ton of sense. That is, if Mace is genuine in her opinion that the “LGBs” should divorce “the Ts.”
Enter the “Log Cabin Republicans.” This group purports to represent LGBT Republicans across the country. Notice — no separation between the LGBs and the Ts.
In addition, the group supports the so-called “Fairness for All Act,” which would ensure nobody can be fired on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity and that sexual orientation and gender identity are added as legally protected groups to existing civil rights, anti-bullying and housing bills.
“This bill suggests a new direction in the Republican Party that artfully balances liberty with inclusion,” the group states. “We fully support the Fairness for All Act.”
According to The Family Research Council, the Fairness for All Act would allow males in women’s sports. Under the Fairness for All Act, females would no longer have privacy in most public bathrooms, locker rooms and battered women’s shelters.
By the way. If you are wondering, Mace cosponsored the Fairness for All Act.
That seems a bit curious. And to be fair, that was a couple of years ago.
But that isn’t the only issue the Log Cabin Republicans are bad on. In addition, the group wants a national ban on conversion therapy for minors. This means if a child has confusion about their sexual orientation or gender identity, they want it to be illegal for that child to speak with a licensed healthcare provider about that confusion unless the provider affirms the feelings of confusion.
Keep in mind that preschool children in Iowa have been told they can choose to be a boy, a girl, both, neither or something else. So while 4-year-olds are told things like this, groups like the Log Cabin Republicans want it to be illegal for those same children to get help when they’re confused.
Yikes.
By the way, Sen. Joni Ernst and Congresswomen Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks are all three listed as Log Cabin Republican supporters and all three have participated as main speakers for Log Cabin Republican D.C. events.
Back to Nancy Mace, who is still listed as a Log Cabin Republican “ally.”
It turns out that Mace attended the Log Cabin Republicans D.C. annual Christmas Party earlier this month.
While the “Fairness for All Act” may have been a couple of years ago, this was obviously just days ago.
And if you’re wondering what the Log Cabin Republicans have said in the past about the bathroom issue, well…
A couple of Log Cabin Republican members wrote that bathroom bills do not reflect Texas values… in 2017.
Also in 2017, the Log Cabin Republicans and its nonpartisan sister think tank, Liberty Education Forum, submitted a paper to the Department of Education suggesting policies to ensure transgender students are treated according to their gender identity rather than their sex.
According to a report, the organization recommended locker rooms include curtains and partitions be used for privacy for transgender students or students uncomfortable changing in front of transgender peers.
Much more recently, The Log Cabin Republicans have celebrated the election of transgender Republicans.
Mace received plenty of attention and accolades for defending the rights and privacy of women. She did it despite threats and protests.
But her relationship with the Log Cabin Republicans, who still support the Fairness for All Act according to their own website, certainly causes confusion for conservatives who want to believe she was doing the right thing for the right reason.
