The Waterloo School District has a recent job posting for a Director of School & Community Relations. The position is a full-time administrative job.

One of the skills required is the ability to “work effectively, cooperatively and respectfully with staff, parents and community members regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic/national origin, religion, age, socio-economic status, disability and marital status.”

It’s also a required skill to have demonstrated a record of commitment and sensitivity to affirmative action, equal opportunity and human rights.

Under the job description, point six is of particular interest.

“Participates and connects with community agencies and/or committees with a specific attention given to diverse and minority organizations.”

Groups mentioned include the NAACP, EMBARC, RACI and One Iowa.

EMBARC is a “grassroots, community-based, non-profit founded by refugees, for refugees.”

RACI is the “Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa.”

One Iowa is a group founded to advocate for the LGBTQ community.

This individual is also expected to represent the district in various community organizations and events with a focus on growing visibility in diverse areas.
