The Western Iowa Young Republicans (WIYR) is pleased to announce the endorsement of Heath Hansen for Iowa Senate District 6 in the June 2 Republican Primary. Hansen, a sixth-generation Iowan, is a proud husband, father, and pastor from Audubon. As a pastor and counselor, Heath has developed the traits that make him the best choice to represent the interests of District 6 Iowans in the Senate.
WIYR President Dausin Olberding said, “The Western Iowa Young Republicans is proud to endorse Heath and grateful to have someone like him running for office. Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to get to know Heath and I am confident that he will stick to his word and deliver real results for his constituents. Des Moines needs more young go-getters like Heath who will hit the ground running at the Capitol and work tirelessly to serve our area.”
“I’m honored to have the endorsement and the support of the Western Iowa Young Republicans. Clubs such as these are the future of the Republican Party and the State of Iowa. Having their backing is a huge blessing,” Hansen said on Thursday.
Hansen, 31, is a WIYR founding member and Vice President of the organization, which aims to get more young people (age:18-40) involved in Republican politics. The coverage area for the organization includes Guthrie, Audubon, Shelby, Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Calhoun, Sac, and Buena Vista counties. As a member of the WIYR Executive Board, Hansen abstained from voting in favor of his endorsement.
“As Republicans, we can’t cede the youth vote to figures on the socialist Left like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or Ilhan Omar. We’re building a wide coalition of young conservatives who have had enough with reckless giveaway schemes like free college aimed at buying the youth vote,” Olberding added.
