We protect our kids from all sorts of things. It is time for Iowa Republicans to follow Texas State Rep. Bryan Slaton’s lead and announce plans for legislation banning drag shows in the presence of minors.

“Drag shows are no place for a child,” Slaton said. “The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children. As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either. Protecting our own children isn’t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas.”

Slaton’s announcement came after he said “sick adults enticed kids to put dollars bill the underwear (sic) of men dressed as women” this past weekend.

“This is disgusting and dangerous,” he said. “It can’t be allowed to continue.”

Now we know there are events here in Iowa — not California, not Washington, not Oregon, not New York, Iowa — where young children are dressed in drag and collect dollar bills from adults.

Let’s hope Republican legislators begin work today on legislation to protect kids from this sort of thing here in Iowa.

Why?

Because it isn’t going to end here. The line must be drawn somewhere. And if it isn’t drawn at kids being dressed up in drag collecting money from adults, then where will it be?

  1. Hope to see everyone with concerns about Child Abusing Pedophiles outside the Whiskey River in Ankeny on Sunday, the 12th, at 1pm. Bring your sings and meet at the FREEDOM RV…

  2. Sad day when politicians need to pass laws to protect kids from their irresponsible and degenerate parents. But, indeed, this is how low we’ve fallen as a society, all in the name of inclusiveness.
