The Winterset School District is still dealing with an incident where a seventh-grade literacy teacher came out to his class as bisexual. There have been differing accounts of what was actually said and done in the classroom.

The district, for its part, has been unable to comment on anything citing it is a personnel issue. However, some parents talking behind the scenes want to make sure their children are interviewed by district officials.

There also reports from parents in the district that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave.

During a “get-to-know-me” presentation, the teacher included the LGBTQ pride flag on a slide. Some have said the teacher discussed the issue at length with students.

One person said students were told they are expected to support the teacher’s “community.”
