World War II Navy Veteran Don Kelsey had a simple message Friday night that he shared at the Siouxland Young Republicans launch party.

“The Republican Party represents freedom,” Kelsey said. “And without freedom, we’re nothing as a country.”

Kelsey talked about all the wars that have been fought, and provided warning for what would happen if someone like Bernie Sanders became President of the United States.

“If we rever to socialism, we’d destroy everything these good veterans had fought for — it’d be down the drain,” he said. “It’d be terrible for our country. Terrible.”

Government dependency is the biggest concern Kelsey has when it comes to the young people in America.

“People are becoming lazy and wanting the government to take care of them and give them everything,” he said. “Sometime we might get to a place like Rome where they don’t want to fight for the country anymore. I hope the young people will realize there is no free lunch.”

With nine grandkids and nine great-grandkids, Kelsey has his concerns.

“I won’t be here,” he said. “But I’m really concerned for their future. We have to re-elect our President and continue what he has started for our country.”
