Gotta love those undercover journalists at Project Veritas.  This time, they got a poll worker in New Jersey to issue a ballot to a journalist posing as an Irish citizen who was not registered to vote in the state nor did he have U.S. citizenship.  The poll worker was caught in an undercover video saying all of this didn’t matter; other people would figure it out later.

This comes against a trend of growing sentiment to allow noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections.  Cities in California, Maryland, and Vermont allow noncitizens to vote in local elections.  They followed Chicago which first allowed noncitizens vote in some school elections in 1989.  Articles are popping up to the effect there’s no good reason not to allow noncitizens to vote and proposals to allow them to vote in local elections are pending in D.C., New York City, Illinois, and Massachusetts.

The Leftists pushing this argue there are many noncitizens living among us, they pay taxes, so they should be allowed to vote.  There shouldn’t be taxation without representation.

I say nobody put a gun to these people’s heads to come here.  They figured they would be better off giving up voting in their own country and emigrating to America for a better life without voting.  They knew what the deal was, they freely chose to give up voting in their own countries and, therefore, they should not be allowed to vote here.  Some took steps to become U.S. citizens and gained voting rights, but the rest did not.  They are less committed to America and should not have any say in what happens here.  Why should their voting rights be more important to us than they are to them?  The truth is their voting rights are only important to Leftists who are playing cynical power games with what they perceive to be safe votes for Democrats.  The immigrants are just pawns in this game.

As for the aliens who are here illegally, there is absolutely no reason to reward them with the benefits of U.S. citizenship when they broke our laws to get here.  Frankly, I don’t want people who have no respect for the rule of law voting in our elections.

I never claimed, as have some others, that noncitizens are voting unlawfully in great numbers.  But it does happen.  Last summer, Ohio’s elections chief asked the state attorney general to investigate 117 noncitizens for illegally registering to vote or actually voting in the 2020 election.  Nineteen noncitizens were charged with unlawful voting in North Carolina last year, and four more were turned over for criminal prosecution in Georgia earlier this year.  I am glad to see these efforts to deter noncitizens from voting in our elections.  I was also happy to see the 2018 House resolution against noncitizen voting declaring “that allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote devalues the franchise and diminishes the voting power of United States citizens.”   I support the Republican court challenge to noncitizen voting in Vermont under that state’s constitution, as well as the recent rejections of noncitizen voting in Colorado, Florida, North Dakota, and Alabama.

To me, the importance of the issue lies not in the number noncitizens unlawfully voting, but in the ongoing devaluation of U.S. citizenship.  Here’s what’s down the road of saying citizenship is no longer important:  the Visigoths overran the northern border and sacked Rome.  I’m not saying that will happen overnight in America, but the people mindlessly parroting the Left’s support for noncitizen voting better get a grip.  Bad stuff will happen when you start believing America is a horrible rotten place and it isn’t important to have a country, anymore.

Here’s what else lies ahead: the Left never quits.  Noncitizen voting in municipal elections today, noncitizen voting for federal offices and president tomorrow.  You can count on the Left to keep pushing for and expanding noncitizen voting and for the corollary that citizenship isn’t important, so the only way to deal with the Left’s mapped-out psychological warfare is to head it off at the pass now, before it gains any more momentum.
