With one week in the books at our beloved State Capitol, The Iowa Standard wanted to highlight some of the “interesting” bills that were filed during Week 1. Among them, House File 2036 sponsored by State Sen. Henry Stone.

The bill simply states that an employer requiring an employee to undergo routine COVID-19 testing as an alternative to receiving a vaccine shall pay all costs of the testing and shall compensate the employee for all the time away from work to undergo testing that is not conducted on the premises of the employer.

The bill also states an employer shall not require an employee to undergo testing outside of the employee’s normal working hours.

It would take effect upon enactment.

The bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

A number of organizations have all registered as “undecided” on the bill.

  1. If they register “undecided”, it might just mean it is too politically hot to take a side. Or, the organization has no courage to take a stand on anything. Maybe both. Don’t be a chicken. Stand up and be counted.
