Name: Harold Youngblut, Republican

Office/District: State Senate District 30

Hometown: Hudson

Profession: Farmer / Land Developer

Why running for office: “I’m running to make a change. My motto is to bring common sense and reason back to the Capitol. In my district, it is always education. And I do support fully funding education, but we need to be reasonable about what fully funding means. And I want to see more control back to our school boards and local administration rather than everything coming out of Des Moines with the local people just being puppets. I believe that they will choose to spend the money that they do get more efficiently and with more meaningful results for the students in their district.

“I run a small business, and so taxes is an important issue for me. I want to help find ways to keep our taxes down so that we can compete to bring new businesses into the area. And then on a personal basis, to put more money back into the pockets of homeowners and of the common workers rather than the bigger corporations.”
