Easter largely ignored on Twitter by Iowa House and Senate Democrats, key figure from Easter story never mentioned

Anyone who follows elected officials in the state of Iowa on Twitter likely saw plenty of Easter messages from those elected officials on Sunday.

Many of the Republicans shared messages about Easter, with perhaps the most popular post being “He is risen.”

Now, I have lists that, as far as I know, has every Twitter account of members of the Iowa House and Senate that exists. I used it to go through every Democrat in the House and Senate.

I found only about seven Democrats tweeted Easter greetings.

None of them included anything about Jesus. None of them referred to anyone being risen.

Ironically, perhaps the most “religious” Easter tweet from an Iowa Democrat came from Rep. Ako Abdul-Samad, who is Muslim.

This image was used by Congressman Dave Loebsack, sent out by U.S. House Democrats.

Congresswomen Cindy Axne and Abby Finkenauer also acknowledged the day that marks Christ’s resurrection.

Now, to be fair, I did not examine other social media platforms. Twitter makes it somewhat easy in the fact I can just search through my lists.

There are 65 Democrats between the Iowa House and Senate. Obviously not all of them are on or active on Twitter.

At first, I was surprised how few paid attention or acknowledged the holiday. But as I think about it, I’m more astonished not a single one acknowledged the holiday by referring to the actual meaning of it.

This, of course, comes on the heels of Gov. Kim Reynolds drawing criticism from liberal organizations for declaring last Thursday a Day of Prayer in Iowa.
