Democrat State Sen. Janet Petersen filed Senate File 36, a bill that would exempt the sale of period products and diapers from the sales tax.
This bill has come up in Petersen’s presentation on the floor of the Senate before.
In 2019, Petersen pointed out there is “gender inequality” in Iowa’s tax code because Iowa women and girls are taxed every month for products they must purchase.
“We have no monthly tax for men and their penis,” Petersen said.
