The Polk County Democrats cannot seem to decide if they are bothered by nonpartisan city and school elections or if they want to be heavily involved in the same nonpartisan city and school elections.

It was a Jekyll and Hyde day on Facebook for the Polk County Democrats on Wednesday.

Late in the evening, the group was decrying the Dallas County GOP hosting Waukee and Earlham school board candidates at next week’s Dallas County GOP Roundup.

“Nothing to see here, folks,” wrote the Polk County Democrats. “Just the ‘nonpartisan’ Warriors and Wolves United for Waukee speaking at another Republican fundraiser.”

They also whined about Southeast Polk School Board candidates appearing together.

“Although they’ve had at least two fundraisers together, these three Republicans running for the Southeast Polk School Board swear they’re not running as a ticket (riiiiiiiight),” the Polk County Democrats wrote.

An hour before that post they were fuming about Deb Davis, who is running for Johnston School Board.

“In case you saw some random person walking around Johnston schools the day after the mask vote last month, it was just Republican Deb Davis praying at everyone who was taking health precautions during a global pandemic,” the Polk County Democrats wrote.

Yes, the Polk County Democrats took issue with someone who was hoping to pray with students at the See You At The Pole event and walked around the school to pray for students, staff and families.

This was the post from Davis the Polk County Dems highlighted:

During the same hour, Polk County Dems were triggered by Morgan Hughes, who is running for school board in Waukee.

“The Warriors and Wolves United for Waukee now decry that masks have become a focal point of the school board election… even though they’re campaigning solely on masks and their objections to “critical race theory” which isn’t being taught in the schools.

“Morgan Hughes for Waukee School Board says her primary opposition to masks…….. is that she doesn’t think you can train people on “when a mask can be considered contaminated.
Any ideas where we’ve heard the dirty masks argument before?”
So while those four or five posts seemed to indicate Polk County Democrats were losing their minds over Republicans running for school board, just hours earlier the same people were spiking the football about a mailer for school board and city candidates sent by the Polk County Democrats with an absentee ballot request form attached.
“Are you wondering how a little county party run almost completely by volunteers can send out a mailer with a postage paid absentee ballot request to 25,000 households,” the post asks. “Simple. It’s because of your generosity.
“Every penny (Polk County Democrats) raise from our three annual fundraisers goes into things like this mail and chase program every year. We’re lucky that it’s getting bigger and more targeted every cycle.”
