Iowans are feeling the pinch at the pump as gas prices continue to rise under the Biden Administration. Since President Biden took office a little over one year ago, gas prices have increased by 43% going from $2.46 per gallon nationally to $4.41.
The Weekly Fuel Report produced by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship reported that as of March 9, the price of regular unleaded gasoline average $3.89 across Iowa. Prices rose 46 cents from just the week before, and $1.12 higher than one year ago. Retail diesel prices are even worse with the statewide average of $4.57. One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.05 in Iowa.
As the Governor has stated, “President Biden’s short-sighted stance on electric vehicles is undermining Iowa’s renewable fuel industry while simultaneously jeopardizing America’s energy independence… With the policies we see coming out of Washington, it’s never been more important that Iowa fights for renewable fuels like ethanol and biodiesel while looking for new ways to invest in the high-quality products we produce right here, right now in our state.”
That is why House Republicans passed House File 2128 to increase Iowans’ access to biofuels by ensuring all gas stations who are compatible, offer E-15 as an option to consumers.
