Many of you are celebrating Thanksgiving today. But some liberal Iowans may be lamenting today as a “National Day of Mourning.”
At least the ACLU of Iowa is.
“For indigenous people, today is a painful reminder of the genocide, land theft and institutional racism that communities still face today,” the group wrote to Facebook. “#NationalDayOfMourning.”
On Wednesday the group asked for people to participate in a Thanksgiving challenge where they post the name of a tribe of indigenous people who once lived at the location where they will be eating their Thanksgiving dinner.
Which begs the question — if today is a National Day of Mourning, why are these people eating “Thanksgiving” dinner and celebrating in the holiday?
